To present unusual chamber music programming by supporting a diverse group of musicians that engage local audiences, inspire local pride, and strengthen the connections between our various Boston neighborhoods. Convergence Ensemble musicians have primary commitments to larger, local institutions such the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston University, New England Conservatory, and Longy School of Music of Bard College.
Convergence Ensemble productions provide an alternative outlet for these musicians to perform unusual, seldom heard, instrumental and vocal works along with the classics of chamber music literature. In addition it provides a management framework to allow these fully-produced concerts to be presented in other communities and institutions throughout New England.
Convergence Ensemble has developed educational outreach programs that have a long-term, meaningful impact on our community’s young people. These programs encompass artist residencies that relate the chamber music being performed to the personal and academic lives of students (particularly junior and senior high school students as well as college) through history, poetry, literature, dance, and visual art. By working with a number of artistic disciplines, the programs also explore performance-related issues, both in terms of technique and of communicating with an audience.
